The President's Cabinet advises the President. Cabinet members are the heads of major federal departments, and they provide expert guidance on their areas of responsibility.
For example, the Secretary of Defense advises on military matters, the Secretary of State advises on foreign policy, and the Attorney General advises on legal matters. The Cabinet meets regularly with the President.
Cabinet members are appointed by the President and must be confirmed by the Senate. They serve at the President's pleasure, meaning the President can replace them at any time.
