The Federalist Papers were important because they helped people understand the Constitution and supported its passage (ratification).
When the Constitution was proposed in 1787, many Americans were skeptical. The Federalist Papers — 85 essays by Hamilton, Madison, and Jay — made the case for ratification by explaining how the new government would work.
Without the Federalist Papers, the Constitution might not have been ratified. They addressed specific concerns about federal power, individual rights, and the balance between large and small states.
