Benjamin Franklin is famous for many things. Name one: he founded the first free public libraries, was the first Postmaster General, helped write the Declaration of Independence, was an inventor, and served as a U.S. diplomat.
Franklin was one of the most versatile Founding Fathers. He invented the lightning rod, bifocal glasses, and the Franklin stove. As a diplomat, he secured French support during the Revolutionary War — crucial to American victory.
At age 81, Franklin was the oldest delegate at the Constitutional Convention. He's the only Founding Father who signed all four key documents: the Declaration of Independence, the Treaty of Alliance with France, the Treaty of Paris, and the Constitution.
