Some states have more representatives because of the state's population. States with more people get more representatives in the House.
The total number of House seats (435) is divided among the 50 states based on population data from the census, which is conducted every 10 years. After each census, seats are reapportioned — some states gain seats, others lose them.
California has the most representatives (52) because it has the largest population. States like Wyoming, Vermont, and Alaska have just one representative each because of their smaller populations.
Say: 'Because of the state's population' or 'because some states have more people.'
