Woodrow Wilson was President during World War I. He led the country from 1913 to 1921.
Wilson initially tried to keep the U.S. out of the war, but Germany's unrestricted submarine warfare and the Zimmermann Telegram pushed America to enter in 1917. American troops helped the Allies win in 1918.
After the war, Wilson championed the League of Nations — an international organization to prevent future wars — but the U.S. Senate rejected joining it.
