During the Cold War, the main concern of the United States was communism. The U.S. feared the spread of communist ideology around the world.
The Cold War (roughly 1947-1991) pitted the U.S. against the Soviet Union in a global struggle between capitalism/democracy and communism/authoritarianism.
This concern led to American involvement in the Korean War, Vietnam War, and numerous other conflicts aimed at containing communism.
