The Constitution can be changed through amendments. An amendment is a change or addition to the Constitution, and the process for making one is deliberately difficult — requiring supermajorities in Congress and ratification by the states.
There are currently 27 amendments. The first 10 (the Bill of Rights) were added in 1791. Later amendments ended slavery (13th), gave women the right to vote (19th), and lowered the voting age to 18 (26th).
The amendment process ensures the Constitution can evolve with the country while remaining stable — it can't be changed on a whim, but it can be changed when there's broad national consensus.
Say: 'Amendments' or 'the amendment process.' Keep it simple.
