The President is elected for four (4) years. Presidential elections are held in November of every fourth year (2024, 2028, 2032, etc.).
The President can serve a maximum of two terms (8 years total), thanks to the 22nd Amendment, ratified in 1951 after Franklin Roosevelt won four consecutive elections.
The four-year term was a deliberate compromise at the Constitutional Convention — long enough to accomplish meaningful work, but short enough that voters could remove an ineffective president relatively soon.
Say: 'Four years.'
